Matthew William

MACP, RP (Qualifying) Registered Psychotherapist, Qualifying

Hi! I’m Matthew! I am a practicing human, just like you. The pursuit of a meaningful life has taught me that relationships are everything. I worked as an aerospace engineer, in psychology research and in the start-up world before realizing I want to make an impact in a more person-centred way. I feel blessed to spend my days connecting with humans, learning together, being with the reality of what it is to be alive in this moment and place.

Therapy should be a place where you feel like you’re growing, and sometimes that may look like tension or challenging emotions, and others like insight, peace and hope.

Working with me

Everyone wants to be loved and accepted for who they are and to change, and these are compatible. There are no judgements, we are all learning. My goal is to be with you as we make sense of your life together, how you got here, who you are and where you want to go.

Worth mentioning

As clients decide who they want to work with for counselling, there’s lots to take into consideration! Here are some additional perks you should know of!

I hold zero judgements, I nurture an environment of safety to allow for honest conversation, even if that is challenging.

I use scientifically informed treatment modalities and take feedback very seriously. We’re in this together.

Being trauma informed means that I have an understanding of how trauma can impact your sense of self, this means we can address the root cause if necessary.

What does a session with me look like?

Slow and mindful exploration of what it feels like to be you, what you want, and where you feel stuck. With your trust and consent, I will exercise honesty without sugarcoating, and together we will courageously explore your world. Safety and collaboration (we are in this together) are everything.

My approach

There is nothing fundamentally bad or wrong about you. You have learned patterns that were perfectly adapted to the circumstances you’ve grown in. Often these learned patterns don’t apply anymore. Often painful experiences of being hurt or deprived of love or witnessing suffering contribute to these patterns. We will work together to process these patterns and move towards new learning, to grow and thrive as a human being.

Person Centered

There is a natural propensity towards wholeness and transcendence. The idea of person-centered therapy is to nurture your self-trust and agency, to tap into your innate capacity towards wholeness and growth.

Coherence Therapy

Every thing that you do makes sense within its context. Some learnings are emotionally based, these require activating and holding the emotional activation, as well as alternate perspectives and allowing the brain to learn new schemas.

EMDR/Polyvagal/Trauma Focus

Trauma can be thought of as a unique type of emotional learning that impinges upon our experience. Trauma-focused therapies involve the brain fully processing traumatic events in order to allow the nervous system to return to equilibrium.
